Normally I do not receive too many comments on my blog. Mostly because I do not write very interesting posts, so I have almost no readers who can comment…
What I do receive a lot, though, is spam. I suspect I am not the only one in this situation. Almost every day I look at my comments section just to find out that a lot of people is worring about my sexual habits/problems and I just hope that someday I’ll get some interesting comments from real people. Today is that day!
I’m not sure about it but surely got my attention: a single comment signed by John Doe that has billy@gates.com as e-mail address (although something inside me is telling me this is not his real address) with the following text:
“2c7fcf9338627ed28d188a04b4f7770a”
Yes, that is the whole message’s body. A simple (albeit very large) number!! I really don’t know how to interpret this message: is an MD5 checksum of something? An encrypted message from some secret agency? My first contact with aliens!?
Somehow, I’m not very interested to find out what it says just in case is the hash for a rotten pre-teen pr0n page’s URL, but I found really amusing the way this spam message has been written :-).
Oh! By the way, I do not need to enlarge my virile member nor a rolex replica, so please stop writting comments about it. Thank you.

Up until now, I’ve been hosting my blog and the ePDFView project on my DSL line. Needless to say, this was too slow when more than two people tried to download the tarballs or simply where browsing the site. Also, it wasn’t very reliable and more times than not the site was offline.
In order to change the status quo I’ve decided to host my blog and projects at GeekISP, which offers web hosting, e-mail, Subversion, and Trac servers at a very good price. Up until now, GeekISP’s support staff was very kind and had a lot of patience answering all my dumb questions while trying to configure the site :-).
I hope this change was a good decision ;-).
I also changed the blog software. Previously I’ve used a custom-made Python blog software, which wasn’t very good. Now I’m using the well-known WordPress blog software, which seems to be very good. Amoung other features, that my blog software laked, WordPresshas UTF-8 support, good administration area, RSS feeds, and excellent performance.

First, no this is not an announcement of a
Mac OS X version of
ePDFView. It doesn’t make much sense to me, since Mac OS X has
PDF support built-in.
My idea is to use my notebook as my main development machine, so I need a way to continue working on my projects. That means that I needed to install GTK+, but I didn’t wanted to use Apple’s X11. What I did was install GTK+ version 2.10.1 which has native support for Quartz, Mac OS X’s graphics subsystem.
I couldn’t resist the temptation to compile ePDFView with native GTK+, and this screenshot is a proof that I managed to do so
Of course there are some little bugs, both in ePDFView and GTK+’s Quartz backend, but the application is still usable (most of time…)

t’s been a while from my last entry, I was waiting for my new MacBook to arrive. Since I’m a GNU/Linux user, I’m still trying to get used to Mac OS X’s interface, but having a terminal is always a relief :-)Oh, by the way, the 3rd PyWeek will be the week of September 3 to September 10,

Yesterday
GameDev’s
Four Elements V contest began. In short, the aim of this contest is to make a game based around
four elements.I couldn’t participate in the
previous edition and I’m not really sure if I will participate in this one, but this time I feel a lot more motivated to do so.
I also found that the people behind the GP2X also started a contest. If I’m fast maybe I can make a single game for both competitions although I have no chance to win on neither, due to my ability to create only crappy programmer’s art
Edit 2006-06-05: The Summer ‘06 72 Hour Game Development Competition is also going to be this July. I guess summer is a good time for a game competitions
